Frequently Asked Questions
If you have any further questions please do
not hesitate to give us a call or submit our
online inquiry form and we will
email a response.
Q: How much notice do I need to give to order turf?
A: At least 1 to 2 days notice is usually required, we cut the turf fresh to order and
don’t “just have it sitting around”.
Harvesting takes place each afternoon during the week. It’s best to call at least the day
before you want to pick up.
If you need turf delivered please allow extra notice eg. 3-4 days or more. During peak
periods ie. before long weekends, Christmas and other holidays please allow more notice as
our schedule fills quickly.
Q: How long can I leave the turf on the pallet before I lay it?
A: We deliver your turf freshly cut from our farm. We prefer to see the turf laid
within 24 hours of delivery, especially in warm weather.
Q: Do you have a minimum order?
A: There is no minimum order quantity for our turf. Let us know what you need and
farm pick up can be arranged and we also offer a delivery service for a fee. The only
exception is the Sweet Smother turf, there is a minimum 20 sq metre order for this
variety (currently out of stock anyway).
Q: When can I mow my new lawn?
A: Once the roots have established and the turf cannot be lifted. Usually give it a light
mow within 2 to 3 weeks depending on your variety of lawn.
Q: How do I control weeds in my lawn?
A: If your lawn is kept healthy and well fertilised then the lawn will be so vigorous
that it will out-compete weeds. You should be applying fertiliser 3 to 4 times a year. This will
keep your lawn thick and healthy. If you do have a weed problem, there are herbicides
available. If you only have a few weeds it may be easier to dig them out by hand
to avoid having to spray.
Q: When should I water the turf?
A: When you start laying the turf, once you have laid an area large enough for a sprinkler
to cover then start the water straight away. The first watering is really important.
Make sure the water has soaked through the turf and has moistened the soil below.
For the following 2 weeks the turf should not be allowed to dry out. After the
establishment period, then a weekly deep watering is usually sufficient to maintain the
lawn.
Q: What is the size of the turf?
A: - Wintergreen Couch is cut in a 0.75m
2
roll, it measures 1300mm long x 580mm wide.
- Limerick Soft Leaf Buffalo is in a
folded slab of 0.5m2, it measures 1250mm long x 400mm.
- Zoysia Japonica comes in a folded slab of 0.5m2, it measures 1250mm long x 400mm wide.
- Shadetuff Zoysia comes in a folded slab of 0.5m2, it measures 1250mm long x 400mm wide.
- Sweet Smother comes in a folded slab of 0.5m2, it measures 1250mm long x 400mm wide.
Q: Do you have seed available for sale?
A: We often get asked this question and people are often surprised to learn that our turf
varieties aren’t actually grown from seed!! All the turf is propagated by using the plant
material of the turf variety (eg. stolens or runners).
Most commonly, seed is used in cool climate areas for cool season grasses such as rye and
fescue. They don’t do well in our climate because of the heat and humidity. There are
some couch blends available from hardware stores, these normally contain a blend of
couch and a cover crop such as rye, which struggles in our climate. For quick and easy
establishment you can’t beat instant turf.
Q: Can we visit the farm to see the turf?
A: We are always happy to have visitors, but please phone ahead and make an appointment to
ensure we are available to show you around. It’s a busy place around here and sometimes we
are out making deliveries or running errands.
If you want to arrange a farm visit please call 0468 865 399.
